Companion Yfandes by Metty Companion Yfandes by Metty
Finally a piece for myself!
This past week I couldn't collect the drive to work on any of the commissions I owe, so yesterday I started this. I am quite pleased with the results, it was my first time playing with Corel Painting Essentials, that is a very amusing program.

Annnyway, I wanted to portray a companion from Mercedes Lackey's novels. Beings that are intellectually equal with humans but are in the form of a white horse with sapphire eyes. After looking at it for a long time I settled with saying that the piece seems to have the feel of Yfandes from the 'Last Herald-Mage' Trilogy, her chosen is Vanyel Ashkervon. *Grins * such a good story that one, *chuckles * I will leave you to your thoughts now, enjoy!

Please note that I put a good effort into this piece and I would prefer that you respect my wishes and don't use this piece. Enjoy!

Hi! This is an absolutely beautiful piece and captures everything I love about Companions beautifully. ♥

Do you think I could have permission to use it as a header for an lj community I'm currently setting up? I would credit you and link back here, of course.

OMG :wow:, i love this pic!!I didnt read the title properly at first - all i saw was the word companion and clicked it, without looking at the title i had already said to myself that it was 'fandes, you captured the essence of her beautifully, this has got to be one of the best pieces of valdemar artwork i've ever seen. :D

Most definately favouriting!

I have to say, the colours you have worked with - the soft pink of the nose, the silvery edge to the white - NO OTHER artist on D.A. I've seen so far has captured that aspect of the Companion. There's something about her eyes as well that LOOK like you could fall into them. I LOVE this picture and I'm going to favourite it because in a surprising way this 'horse' LOOKS female (lol) because of those soft pinks and that slim nose ^__^ I really don't know much about horses and Mercedes Lackey's books (which I am very new to) have taught me so much I just want my own now! Haha VERY WELL DONE (yeah those legs looks like one thick one but I didn't really notice and to be honest I do that all the time with whatever I'm drawing that's walking OUT of the picture!) - I would love to see other Companions drawn by you, especially Rolan since I've just started reading Talia's books at the moment ^__^

Thank you for the comment, it honestly is very encouraging. Now I am itching to dust off my tablet and do Rolan, I am definitely going to look into that. Hopefully you will see one of him within the month.

Oo yay! I'm hoping to draw Lavan and his Companion some time soon - I've drawn so many sketches! I am looking forward to seeing your Rolan - there just isn't enough good fanart for these books!

Curious to how you mean odd? Don't get me wrong, I like constructive crit. If you mean that it looks thick it is due to the hide leg that is behind it. If it is I could re work the piece and define the seperation, if not then let me know. Thanks!

So would you say that giving the separation between the two legs more definition would be the fix?

I did too...
but then again my over all mental image of the companions is rather arab-esque.
I think that Arabs are the most wonderful horses in the world
I'm even looking into buying one in the fall.
